What is a cold air funnel?
Cold air funnel are funnel that form behind the cold front in the colder air. They are considered tornadoes when the funnel reaches the ground. Therefore, a tornado warning is issued when one does touches the ground. However, because these form in the cold air mass and are usually different in structure than the classic strong thunderstorm, these cold air funnels or tornadoes tend be weaker short lived tornadoes. However, they can be dangerous. If a warning is issued or a funnel is spotted, you should take action just like any other tornadoes. Even though most cold air funnels are weaker than those found in other parts of the country, they can still be dangerous and damaging when one touches ground. Keep an eye to th sky and be ready to take action if a funnel is spotted or a warning is issued for your area.
